Thousands of people will descend on downtown Monmouth for the third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.
United Way of Greater Warren County is hosting the festival in the 100 block of South First Street from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Aug. 24.
“Hispanic culture blows up on the street during this Hispanic Heritage Festival and it’s just fun for the whole entire family,” said Jeannie Weber, executive director of United Way of Greater Warren County.
Weber said there will be 16 vendors selling authentic Hispanic food, a few merchandise vendors, and a cash bar from G&M Distributors.
There will be bull riding hosted by a local Hispanic-owned business and children’s activities hosted by United Way volunteers and Buchanan Center for the arts.
There will also be live entertainment, including DJ Joseph & Friends; Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico; and the band Tamborazo la Magdalena.
In addition, the city of Monmouth’s Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation will be read in Spanish and English at the event.
Vendors keep their proceeds from the festival. But proceeds from the cash bar go to a special United Way fund to support the Hispanic community.
“We have a committee consisting of Hispanic community members that determine where that money goes,” Weber said.
Weber said she’s expecting up to 3,500 attendees.
