The position of public works director for the city of Galesburg is open again.

Michael Doi is no longer serving in the role after 13 months on the job.

His last day of employment was Oct. 16.

Administrative Services Manager Cathy St. George said there is not currently a set date for launching a search.

The city has not provided details on the reason for Doi’s departure.

He was hired around six months after longtime public works director Wayne Carl retired.

Following Doi’s departure, City Engineer Aaron Gavin is serving as interim director.

Gavin also served as interim for several months before Doi was hired.

“The City of Galesburg is very fortunate that Gavin has played an integral role in leadership of the public works department as City Engineer, and is well-suited to seamlessly assume the leadership of the department as the Interim Director of Public Works during this transition,” said St. George.

The public works department is responsible for maintenance and improvement of the city’s infrastructure. The director manages the day to day operations of the department, supervises around 45 employees, and is responsible for long-term planning for the sustainability of the city’s infrastructure.
