Celebration scheduled for Keokuk Union Depot restoration
A restoration project 10 years in the making is about to be publicly unveiled in Keokuk.
The Keokuk Union Depot Foundation and the Keokuk Union Depot Commission will host a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, to mark a return to what the Keokuk Union Depot looked like in 1891.
As part of the event, the depot’s preservation consultant will give a presentation at 3:15 p.m.
The work included restoration of the turtle-back trackside canopy and of the waiting room exterior masonry. Organizers said restoration of the waiting room interior will be completed soon.
The depot will be made available for public and private events.

Route 41 closure south of Galesburg
A section of Illinois Route 41 south of Galesburg is expected to be closed most of next week.
BNSF plans to complete repairs that require the highway to be closed between Lacon Drive and Knox Highway 10.
The road will be closed from Monday morning through Thursday afternoon. Detour routes will take drivers west on Knox Highway 10 or Main Street in Galesburg, then north or south on U.S. Route 150/Grand Avenue.
Organizers to distribute Burlington RAGBRAI proceeds
RAGBRAI ended in Burlington this year. Local organizers say the annual bike ride across Iowa doubled the size of Des Moines County for a day.
They are now planning to share proceeds from the event with local organizations that helped support it.
Organizers will present checks next week to the city of Burlington, Harmony Bible Church, and the Burlington and West Burlington school districts.
The organizing committee is contributing $15,000 to the city to support the funding of trail signage and $10,000 toward a public art project.
