There’s a new way for Monmouth area residents to hear what’s happening in local government.
The Policy & Place podcast offers recaps of Monmouth city council and Warren County board meetings.
Soon, it will also include in-depth conversations with policymakers and community leaders.
Ken Helms, communications director for the city of Monmouth, creates the podcast in his spare time. He said it is independent, objective, and non-partisan.
“It’s just about things that are going on, whether it’s ordinance changes or whether we got a new grant,” Helms said. “And that’s on both the city of Monmouth and Warren County.”
Helms said with the decline of print media and fewer journalists reporting on Monmouth and Warren County, positive local news can be overshadowed by national stories.
The podcast is a way to keep the public informed about and engaged with what’s happening close to home, he said.
The city of Monmouth streams its regular council meetings, but Helms said the podcast might be more convenient for people because they can listen while doing other things.
New episodes of Policy & Place will be released on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, though there may be special episodes in between.
The podcast is available on all major podcast apps or directly at Buzzsprout.
