MLK Day events around the tri states

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s. legacy will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 20, which is a federal holiday in his honor.

Several MLK Day events are planned around the tri states region on Sunday and Monday.

Galesburg: The MLK Jr. Holiday Breakfast will be held on Monday, Jan. 20 at First Lutheran Church, 364 E. Water St. The doors open at 7 a.m. and the event begins at 7:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at Cornucopia in Galesburg or at the door. The keynote speaker is Pastor Randy Davis of Community Temple of God in Christ.

Keokuk: The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at New Bethel Church, 1217 Morgan St. The featured speaker will be Reverend Orlando Ray Dial, Pastor of Bethel AME Church in Iowa City. The event is hosted by the Keokuk Association for Rights and Equality, and is free and open to the public.

Knox College: The Knox College MLK Jr. Convocation will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 in Harbach Theatre in Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The keynote speaker is author and social justice advocate Michelle Kuo. The event is free and open to the public.

Macomb: A march from the McDonough County Courthouse to Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, 1500 E. Pierce St., will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20. A service at Mt. Calvary will begin at 10:30 a.m. featuring the Right Reverend Dr. Floyd R. Blair. The events are free and open to the public.
