The decomposing remains of Richard Young were found in the storage unit on Oct. 7, 2022, after a report of a suspicious odor.

Public defenders for a Maquon woman accused of poisoning the village’s former police chief with eye drops want to stop prosecutors from showing crime scene photos of the victim’s remains at trial.

Marcy L. Oglesby, now 52, is charged with murder, aggravated battery with a toxic substance, and concealment of a homicide in the death of Richard R. Young. His decomposing remains were found in a storage unit in the rural Knox County village on Oct. 7, 2022, after a report of a suspicious odor.

The defense’s motion in limine seeks to exclude “certain photographs that were tendered in discovery at the scene where Young’s remains were found.”

The defense argues the photos are unnecessary to the prosecution of the case and are “likely to arouse and inflate the emotions and sympathy of the jury in an unduly prejudicial manner.”

Judge Andrew Doyle previously said he wanted the case to go to trial in February, or March if there was no other option, but the motion will push it back until at least April.

A hearing on the motion in limine is set for April 10, with a final pretrial conference scheduled for April 28.

Meanwhile, the final date for discovery in the case is Feb. 28.

Karen L. Doubet, 78, also faces murder charges in the case. She was arrested in October 2024, two years after the discovery of Young’s remains.

A pretrial conference in Doubet’s case is set for March 10.
