Lee County board chair resigns after public intoxication citation

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says the chairperson of the Board of Supervisors was cited for public intoxication.

Tom Schulz has since resigned from the board.

It appeared he was intoxicated during a board meeting in the county building on Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Schulz left the building for medical attention, then returned. He left again before deputies could speak with him.

They eventually found him walking down his street. Deputies obtained a breath sample before Schulz was cited and released.

Bushnell mayor recognized during Pritzker address

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker praised Bushnell Mayor Robin Wilt during his combined state of the state and budget address on Wednesday.

The governor said Wilt rolled up her sleeves and worked with his administration when it appeared the Vaughan and Bushnell Manufacturing plant would close after more than 150 years in business.

Those efforts led to Marshalltown Company acquiring the plant, preserving around 130 jobs in the community.

Pritzker said Wilt did not worry about partisan politics or play budget games. Instead, her focus was on getting results.

Galesburg man honored for swift response to fire

lesburg man has received a Civic Excellence Award from the fire department for his heroic actions in extinguishing a fire in his neighbor’s apartment on Dec. 17.

Joseph Lammert put out the fire in the 1300 block of West Sandburg Drive with his personal fire extinguisher.

Potentially devastating consequences were prevented because of functioning detectors, the availability of a fire extinguisher, and Lammert’s quick response, according to the fire department.

Because of his swift action, fire damage was contained to the kitchen of the apartment.

Dorsett worried about federal and state uncertainty

A Macomb city council member is concerned about the possible trickle-down effect of uncertainty at the federal and state government levels.

Dave Dorsett said there is chaos and unreliability in Washington DC, and revenue shortfalls in Springfield.

Speaking during this week’s council meeting, he said those could soon jeopardize the services Macomb offers its residents.

“What those may be, we don’t know. It’s too soon to tell. But it’s foolish to assume there will be no impact at the municipal level,” he said.

Dorsett said the city is hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

Three charged with burglary of former pottery

Three McDonough County residents were arrested for burglary in Knox County.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the former pottery factory at 801 N. Main St. in Abingdon at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a burglary in progress.

They arrested Walker Madison, 30, of Bardolph, and Jason Beans, 42, and Cindy Lambert, 44, both of Macomb.

They’re charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.
