Burlington woman charged with murder

A Burlington woman is charged with first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing.

Police responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Angular Street around 4:58 p.m. Saturday, March 1 for a report of a male who had been stabbed and was unresponsive.

Officers located the victim, who had what appeared to be a single stab wound. The victim was identified as Derius L. Moore, 33, of Chicago.

Moore was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Macomb to get glass-only recycling bin

Macomb will soon have a location where people can drop off glass for recycling.

The purple bin will be placed outside Farm King, 1620 E. Jackson St., this spring.

The Macomb Women’s Club this week gave the city a nearly $54,000 check to pay for the container and construction of its concrete storage area. The city is acting as the fiscal agent for the project.

The city currently allows glass in its recycling program, as well as plastic, food and beverage cans, paper, and flattened cardboard and paperboard.

But advocates for glass-only say that co-mingling recyclables leads to more of them ending up in landfills.

They say when glass-only containers are used, around 98% of the glass gets recycled.
