A veteran of the Galesburg Police Department who has served as chief since 2019 is on paid administrative leave.
A city spokesperson confirmed Russ Idle was placed on administrative leave on Thursday, March 6.
The city has not said why.
Idle began his career with the Galesburg Police Department as a patrol officer in 1994. He was named chief in September 2019.
Chief Deputy Kevin Legate has been named acting police chief.
