Republican Blaine Watkins won Tuesday’s special election in Iowa House District 100.
Watkins received 2,749 votes to edge out Democratic candidate Nannette Griffin, who received 2,574 votes.
As a result, Republicans will maintain their two-thirds supermajority in the House.
Watkins, of Donnellson, is currently an aide to State Sen. Jeff Reichman.
Watkins replaces Republican Representative Martin Graber, who passed away on January 31.
House District 100 covers most of Lee County, including Fort Madison and Keokuk.
