A three-year old child is back with their mother after being kidnapped by the woman’s ex-boyfriend in Macomb on Wednesday.
Police say Jamil Purnell took the child from the 400 block of North Charles Street.
Police said once they received information about Purnell’s vehicle, they were able to track him through the Flock Camera/Advanced License Plate Reader System and determined he had traveled toward Chicago.
The child was found at a home there, but Purnell escaped.
Police say Purnell is not the child’s biological father.
The child was examined at a Chicago-area hospital before being returned to their family.
Illinois State Police, the McDonough County Sheriff’s office, the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, and the Chicago Police Department assisted with the investigation.
