In the contest for an at-large seat on the Macomb city council, Jennifer Hemingway received more than 52% of the vote to defeat former city council member Tammie Leigh Brown Edwards.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the people of Macomb for electing me to represent them,” Hemingway told TSPR.

Hemingway said that during the campaign, she knocked on doors, held conversations with voters, and showed up for city council meetings to learn about the issues.

One of the issues the council is currently contemplating is a proposed indoor sports complex, something Hemingway supports.

“We know the economic base is changing in Macomb. The city is funded by sales tax, so bringing people to town to spend while their kids are participating in sports at the sports complex is incredibly important to us as we consider our future," she said.

Hemingway said she wants to focus on keeping Macomb vibrant, and she believes the sports complex can help accomplish that.

Also on Tuesday, second ward city council member John Vigezzi and fifth ward council member Ashley Katz won reelection. They both ran unopposed.
