Pride Month panel discussion in Burlington
Burlington Pride and the League of Women Voters will kick off Pride Month with a discussion on building a more inclusive southeast Iowa.
The LGBTQ+ panel discussion will begin at 6 p.m. June 2 at the Burlington Public Library.
To ensure the conversation reflects the full spectrum of the community, organizers are asking for local LGBTQ+ community members to participate and share their experiences. Those interested can email hi@btownpride.com.
Quincy man arrested on child pornography charges
A Quincy man is accused of distributing child sexual abuse material.
Timothy Mason, 43 is charged with five Class X felony counts of dissemination of child pornography.
He was in court on Tuesday, May 13, when a status hearing was scheduled for May 27.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office said Mason was arrested after investigators searched his home on May 7.
Burlington small businesses honored
The Greater Burlington Partnership recognized two local businesses at its annual Small Business Breakfast.
Taste & Seek was named Micro Business of the Year. The gluten, dairy, and egg-free bakery also serves as a Christian boutique.
Fork Catering Company was named Small Business of the Year. The company launched during the pandemic and now serves southeast Iowa and west central Illinois.
The annual awards highlight the entrepreneurial spirit and community impact of Greater Burlington’s small business sector.
BCA accepting 64ARTS entries
Entries are being accepted for 64ARTS, the Buchanan Center for the Arts’ national juried exhibition showcasing visual artwork.
The deadline is Saturday, June 7. Artists may enter up to three pieces of artwork for $30.
The exhibition promotes the importance of the arts in the Warren County community and the surrounding region. It is open to artists working in all mediums. Work must be original and created within the last two years.
Ian Shelly is the juror for 64ARTS. He is an assistant professor of art at Western Illinois University.
