A physician with OSF Healthcare and RenalCare Associates was killed Thursday afternoon when his vehicle collided with a semi tractor trailer near Monmouth.
Syed F. Imam, 44, of Peoria practiced internal medicine and nephrology in Galesburg, Macomb, Monmouth, and Peoria.
"We are deeply saddened at the loss of Dr. Syed Imam, a valued member of the medical staff at OSF St. Mary Medical Center and OSF Holy Family Medical Center, following an accident," a statement from OSF Healthcare reads. "Dr. Imam was a dedicated physician with Renal Care Associates who provided exceptional care to his patients and was beloved by his colleagues."
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children, as well as the many coworkers and patients who were impacted by his life and service."
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on U.S. Route 67 at 185th Avenue, which is on the south edge of Monmouth near Love’s Travel Stop.
Imam was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m.
Northbound lanes of U.S. Route 67 were closed for several hours as state troopers investigated. Traffic was diverted off at 180th Avenue. All lanes were reopened at approximately 8:49 p.m.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. No further details have been released.
