Man arrested in Galesburg ice cream shop armed robbery

Galesburg police believe a man arrested for the robbery of an ice cream shop may be responsible for other robberies in the area.

Grayling Churn, 67, was arrested on Thursday night, following the armed robbery of Flavor Freeze, 552 S. Farnham St.

Police responded to the robbery around 9:21 p.m.

The suspect departed the scene with a bank bag containing cash.

When officers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, the driver did not stop, leading officers to pursue the suspect for several blocks.

The vehicle stopped in the 200 block of Linneus Avenue, but the suspect fled on foot.

He was later apprehended by police.

Churn is charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery to a police officer, and several traffic violations.

Churn is also being investigated for other recent robberies and incidents.

He’s being held at the Knox County jail.
