Tri States Public Radio has been recognized with Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for feature reporting and hard news.
Regional Reporter Jane Carlson was honored in feature reporting for her story on Piersen Eaker, a Monmouth boy with a traumatic brain injury.
In the hard news category, Carlson was honored for her coverage of a Macomb protest seeking justice for Terrell Miller, a four-year-old boy who was fatally shot by police during a domestic violence incident.
The pieces were judged as the best small market entries among public and commercial radio stations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
“Contest entries are judged by our journalism peers, and year-after-year, they honor Jane’s work,” said TSPR News Director Rich Egger. “Whether it’s RTDNA’s Regional Murrow Awards, INBA’s Crystal Mic Awards, or PMJA’s national awards, Jane is consistently recognized for her outstanding work. We’re fortunate to have such an outstanding reporter covering the region.”
Regional winners automatically advance to the national competition, winners of which will be announced in August.
The Murrow Awards are among the most prestigious in broadcast journalism.
Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of broadcast and digital journalism with stories that put public interest above all else and provide a catalyst for public discussion.
