Macomb Police Chief Chief Jeff Hamer (left) will step down next week. Lt. Todd Tedrow (right) will serve as interim chief.

The Macomb city council this week gave unanimous approval to the appointment of Lt. Todd Tedrow to serve as interim police chief.

The appointment is retroactive to Oct. 20. That’s when Tedrow began training to serve as interim chief.

Current chief Jeff Hamer announced in mid-October that he would be stepping down to take a job in the private sector.

He’s scheduled to leave the department on Dec. 12.

Hamer served as chief for nearly three years.

Tedrow has been with the Macomb department since 2009. He said his time as interim chief will give him a good idea of whether he wants to apply to be chief.

The city will begin its search process next month.
