Weather-related announcements for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026

The National Weather Service says a cold weather advisory will be in effect from midnight until noon on Monday, Jan. 26.

Very cold wind chills of 15 to 20 below zero are expected. Wind chills that cold could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Patchy shallow drifting snow is also possible, especially in areas that just received fresh snow.

Schools around the region are adjusting their plans for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 due to the forecast:

  • The Burlington School District will start two hours late. There will be no morning preschool. Childcare will open at 9 a.m.
  • The Central Lee School District will operate on a two-hour delay. There will be no AM Preschool.
  • The Dallas City School District has canceled classes.
  • The Fort Madison School District will operate on a two-hour delay.
  • The Galesburg School District has canceled classes.
  • The La Harpe School District has canceled classes. For families participating in the family dinner project, deliveries will be Tuesday.
  • The Macomb School District will run on a two-hour delay. MacArthur Early Childhood AM session will not have class. The MacArthur PM session will come to school as normal. Early Bird PE has been canceled.
  • Mediapolis Schools have canceled classes.
  • The Monmouth-Roseville School District will hold an e-learning day.
  • The Schuyler-Industry School District will hold an At-Home Inclement Weather Day.
  • Southeastern Community College sites will not open until 10 a.m.
  • The VIT School District will hold a remote learning day.
  • Western Illinois University will operate under a winter weather advisory. The administration says it will be up to faculty, staff, and students to make their own decisions regarding attendance and to use their judgment concerning travel conditions.
  • The West Prairie School District will hold an e-learning day.

In addition, an event that was supposed to be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 has been rescheduled. Dr. Dylan Marney, associate professor of music at Culver-Stockton College, will present a piano recital as part of the Quincy Sunday Music Series at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Unitarian Church, 1479 Hampshire Street in Quincy. The concert was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
