The University of Illinois Extension office in Macomb will host its 28th annual Gardener’s Day later this month.
“People can expect a day of education for gardening, landscaping, conservation,” said Chris Enroth, Horticulture Educator with the University of Illinois Extension.
“Why I really enjoy going to these spring gardening events every year is it sort of gets you prepared for that season ahead.”
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, 2500 E. Jackson St. in Macomb.
Registration is required and can be done online.
Enroth said those with questions or who want to sign up over the phone can call the McDonough County Extension office at 309-837-3939.
Those who register by March 8 will pay the early bird fee of $40. Lunch is included.
After March 8, the registration fee is $50, and that also includes lunch.
There is also a half-day option that costs $30 and does not include lunch.
The registration deadline is March 21.
Enroth said he learns something new about gardening and landscaping every year.
“And there’s always surprises. That’s always the neat thing, when nature surprises you,” Enroth said.
The day will include four hours of education sessions. Each hour will offer three breakout sessions from which attendees can choose.
“We try to make them diverse. We try to make one landscaping, maybe one vegetable gardening, and then another on cut flowers or a hands-on make-and-take,” Enroth said.
“We try to vary things up within each hour to accommodate people’s varying interests in gardening and landscaping.”
The event will also include vendor displays and a chance to win a door prize.
