Tornado watch issued for the region

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of west central Illinois, southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri Tuesday afternoon.

Tornado Watch 32 remains in effect until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center.

A tornado watch means weather conditions could lead to the formation of tornadoes.

In, Illinois, the watch covers Knox, Hancock, Henderson, Mercer, McDonough, and Warren counties.

In southeast Iowa, the watch also covers Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Lee, Louisa and Van Buren counties.

In northeast Missouri, the watch includes Clark and Scotland counties.

Forecasters say two rounds of severe storms are possible. The first could develop before 7 p.m., with storms capable of producing strong tornadoes, very large hail, and damaging winds.

A second round later in the evening might bring damaging winds and heavy rain, with a tornado still possible.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and be ready to seek shelter quickly if warnings are issued.
