Two EF1 tornadoes were documented by the National Weather Service in southeast Iowa during severe weather on Tuesday, March 10.
The tornadoes near Donnellson are the earliest ones confirmed during a calendar year in Lee County since 1967.
Damage from the tornadoes was mainly to outbuildings and trees, according to the National Weather Service.
One of the tornadoes was 1.5 miles long and 50 yards wide, with peak winds of 95 to 100 mph. It touched down at 9:05 p.m. southwest of Donnellson, causing damage to a farm building door before continuing east along 230th Street and damaging trees.
It then strengthened near 230th Street and 160th Avenue, destroying two farm buildings and snapping trees, before dissipating at 9:08 p.m.
The second tornado began its path at 9:26 p.m. east of Donnellson, near Wilson Lake Park. The tornado reached max winds of 90 mph. Along its 2.1-mile path, it damaged the fascia on a home, downed some trees, and uprooted others.
