The Western Illinois University women's basketball team has learned who it will face in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The Leathernecks will take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in the Fort Worth 1 Region. The game will be played at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N. C.
The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Central Time on Friday, March 20.
North Carolina is the number four seed in the bracket. The Tar Heels were 26-7 overall this season and finished third in Atlantic Coast Conference regular season standings.
WIU is the number 13 seed in the region. The Leathernecks’ overall record this season is 26-5. They finished first the Ohio Valley Conference regular season standings and won the conference tournament.
This is WIU’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2017.
The top seed in the Fort Worth 1 region is UConn. The Huskies are the defending national champions.
