Illinois State Police say a domestic disturbance in Good Hope on Friday ended with one person dead and another injured.
The McDonough County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home in the 400 block of Monmouth St., where deputies encountered a woman with severe injuries who had left the home.
A man had barricaded himself inside the home and set it on fire.
The sheriff’s department called in ISP Troop 4, Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4, a SWAT team, and a crisis negotiation team to assist on the scene as a standoff ensued that lasted through late afternoon.
Eventually, the SWAT team entered the home and found the man dead.
ISP says this is an ongoing investigation.
Traffic on U.S. 67 was rerouted around the scene during the standoff, and the West Prairie School District placed its North Elementary School in Good Hope on a “soft lockdown” as a precautionary measure.
The school district dismissed students Friday afternoon under a police presence.
The highway through town was reopened during the evening hours.
