The city decided in mid-March to shut down the aging public pool in Glenwood Park because it requires expensive repairs.

Macomb has an agreement in place to provide swim lessons this summer at the Georgetown subdivision.

The city initially intended to offer the lessons at Macomb High School, but Public Works Director Alice Ohrtmann said that won’t be possible.

“They’re going to be resurfacing the deck around their pool and they just did not know exactly when that was going to happen so they did not want to commit to us using the pool,” Ohrtmann told the city council.

The agreement with the Georgetown Homeowners Association will be in effect from June 1 through August 31.

It allows the city to use the pool strictly for swim lessons, and all programming will be held outside of the homeowner association’s normal operating hours.

The city will pay the association $1,000 and will provide lessons to Georgetown residents at no charge.

City council member John Vigezzi thanked the association’s board of directors.

“It’s a great partnership between the city and Georgetown to allow the swimming lessons,” he said.

The city decided in mid-March to shut down the aging public pool in Glenwood Park because it requires expensive repairs.

It’s possible a new outdoor public pool will be included as part of a proposed sports complex, though the city has yet to decide if it will proceed with developing the sports facility.
