All parties are now on board with the location for a proposed career and technical education center in McDonough County.

The Bushnell-Prairie City, Macomb, and West Prairie school districts are working with Spoon River College to create the center. The Macomb Area Economic Development Corporation is also involved with the project.

Macomb Superintendent Patrick Twomey had pushed for it to be built at Macomb High School, but he now agrees the new SRC campus in Macomb is the best location.

“We have other kids who are already going to Spoon for a variety of different reasons and we have a process in place for that. It will all work out just fine,” Twomey said.

The superintendent said he did his due diligence in trying to find a way to build it at MHS, but it was too expensive to move Ameren transmission lines from where he wanted to put the center.

SRC has applied for a couple state grants to build the center on the east edge of its new campus on East Jackson Street in Macomb.

Twomey said he has written a letter of support for the grants.
