Galesburg CNA pleads not guilty to battering nursing home resident

A former CNA at a Galesburg nursing home faces felony charges for battering a 90-year-old resident.

Bridgette A. Mixon, 60, appeared in Knox County court Monday. She pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery of a person over 60 years old and abuse of a resident of a long-term care facility, both class 3 felonies, and misdemeanor battery.

Mixon also waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Charging documents allege that on April 16, Mixon knowingly inflicted injury on the resident by aggressively handling him, causing multiple bruises on the man’s body.

The incident occurred at Seminary Village, 2345 N. Seminary St.

Mixon has asked for a jury trial and obtained private counsel.

She was terminated from the nursing home following the incident, according to the police report.
