Iowa primary election results: Miller-Meeks & Bohannan to square off again; U.S. Senate and Governor races set

Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks will once again face Democrat Christina Bohannan in southeast Iowa’s First Congressional District.

Miller-Meeks and Bohannan easily won their primaries on Tuesday. This will be the third time the two have squared off for the congressional seat. Miller-Meeks won each of the earlier encounters.

Independent candidate Michael Bridgford is also running for the position this fall.

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson won the Republican nomination for Iowa’s open U.S. Senate seat, while State Representative Josh Turek won the Democratic nomination.

The two are vying to replace Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, who is not running for a third term.

In the Republican primary for governor, businessman and farmer Zach Lahn received around 38% of the vote to edge Randy Feenstra, who received around 37%.

The field also included three other candidates.

Lahn will face Democratic nominee Rob Sand on Nov. 3. Sand, who’s currently state auditor, ran unopposed.

Republican Governor Kim Reynolds did not run for another term.

Chris Cournoyer defeated Abigail Maas in the Republican primary for state auditor. Taylor Wettach ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Here are the unofficial results from contested races in Des Moines and Lee counties:

State Representative, District 99 — Democratic primary
Jennifer Kirkman — 60%
Jim Beres — 32%
Marques Derby — 8%
Kirkman will face incumbent Matthew Rinker in the November election. Rinker ran unopposed in the Republican primary.

Des Moines County Attorney — Republican primary
Travis Inghram — 54%
Trent Henkelvig — 46%
Democrats did not run a candidate for the position.

Des Moines County Board of Supervisors — Republican primary
Vote for one
Brian Thie — 54%
Eric Gerst — 32%
Nick Baker — 14%
Thie will face Bob Bartles in the November election. Bartles ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Lee County Board of Supervisors, District 2 — Republican primary
Tom Schulz — 52%
Tim Wondra — 47%
Schulz will face Chris Greenwald in the November election. Greenwald ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Lee County Board of Supervisors, District 3 — Republican primary
Christopher Seeley Brown — 51%
Sam Wilson — 47%
Democrats did not run a candidate for the position.
