There is a new person overseeing the athletic program at Western Illinois University.
WIU named Shelby Borchardt as its Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective Wednesday, June 3. She had been the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator.
Borchardt replaces Paul Bubb, who served as athletic director for four years.
TSPR inquired as to why Bubb was replaced. Alisha Looney, WIU Director of Marketing and Communications, replied, “As a matter of practice, WIU does not discuss personnel matters involving current or former employees.”
In a release, WIU President Kristi Mindrup expressed gratitude for Bubb’s leadership during his time in Macomb.
“On behalf of the entire University, we thank him for his many contributions and wish him continued success in future endeavors,” she said.
In the release, the university also said the search for a permanent director will be conducted in the future.
