Tri States Public Radio is the proud recipient of two national journalism awards in the annual contest held by the Public Media Journalists Association.
"We are thrilled to have our journalism honored once again by our public media colleagues," said TSPR News Director Rich Egger. "PMJA gives awards to stations, not individuals, which is appropriate for TSPR because we work as a team to produce award-winning reporting.”
Competing in the small market division, TSPR earned the First Place Award in the Climate/Environment Feature category for “The intrinsic value of wetlands.” The story centers around a wetland restoration project in Canton, Mo.
And TSPR received the Second Place Award in the Investigative Reporting category for “She didn't get in the well by herself.” The story examines the cold case murder of Bushnell teenager Stevie Borders in 2000.
“The TSPR news teams works hard to bring news and information to our region,” said TSPR General Manager Heather Norman. “We are proud of what they are able to accomplish given our limited resources.”
The PMJA Annual Awards Competition recognizes the very best in public media work from local outlets across the country. The organization has celebrated exceptional public media journalism for more than 30 years.
