Macomb police said a suspect is in custody from a shooting late Monday night in the 400 block of North Prairie Avenue.
Decory Coleman, 25, of Chicago is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery.
The victim was initially taken to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, then transferred to a trauma center for further treatment. Police said his wounds are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said after the shooting, Coleman fled from the scene and hid in an apartment at Prairieview Housing. An acquaintance of Coleman helped police find him and take him into custody without incident.
According to police, Coleman and the victim know each other.
Police believe the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, and the Illinois State Police assisted Macomb police with the investigation.
