Macomb is on track to make improvements to the Thomas C. Carper Amtrak Station.
The improvement project will include:
- Painting and deep cleaning of the interior
- Tuckpointing of the exterior
- Hardwired ADA switches at the exterior doors to the waiting room
- Restriping of the parking lot
- Installation of HVAC in the waiting room
“Air conditioning has been needed for many years. It gets stifling hot inside,” said city council member John Vigezzi, who once worked at the station.
“As you know from the past, a lot of train stations were taken down, but we were able to keep ours up. It’s great to see that we’re putting money back into it to keep it updated.”
The city council agreed to hire Benton Engineering to design the project and assist the city with the bidding process. The city has money in its general fund to pay Benton.
The city received a $160,800 Congressionally Directed Spending grant to pay for the improvements to the station.
