The city of Macomb offers a residential rehabilitation program, but is not seeing much interest in it so far this year. The city has received just one application.
The city council’s Dave Dorsett said he’s disheartened by the lack of buy-in for the program.
“We hear a lot of times that we’re too concerned about business, not worried about the small homeowner, and we’ve got money sitting out there,” Dorsett said.
The owners of single-family homes within the west side and east side/downtown TIF districts are eligible for the program. The home’s equalized assessed value must be under $33,334.
Applicants must get at least two price quotes from registered contractors. Homeowners can be reimbursed for 50% to 90% of the cost of improvements up to $5,000.
City Administrator Scott Coker said the program was successful last year.
He said the city will work to generate more publicity about it.
