There is a change in leadership at Great River Health in West Burlington.

In a release, the hospital said President and CEO Michael McCoy has left the organization to be with his family during “a difficult time.”

No further information about the personal situation is being released.

McCoy spent four years as the hospital’s president. Before that, he served many years as an OB/GYN in the region.

“Dr. McCoy has devoted his career to caring for others. First as a physician and then as the leader of Great River Health,” said Board Chair John McKillip in the release.

Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Alexander will serve as Great River’s Interim President and CEO, effective immediately.

The Great River Health Board of Directors will decide on the process for selecting a permanent president and CEO.
