The obstetrics department at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb will receive a $4 million federal grant.
The funding comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In a release, MDH said the grant through the Rural Maternity and Obstetrics Management Strategies (MOMS) program will help it work alongside regional partners to:
- Improve access to comprehensive maternity care for rural families
- Strengthen care coordination throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period
- Expand collaboration among healthcare providers, hospitals, EMS, and community organizations
- Address disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes
- Support innovative, evidence-based approaches that improve the health and well-being of mothers and babies
MDH said it is the only hospital in Illinois to receive the grant, which it called a highly competitive national grant.
The hospital expects the funding to begin this fall.
