Four students and a bus driver were injured Friday afternoon when a Keokuk Community School District bus crashed near the end of its route.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the crash in the 3500 block of Argyle Road at around 1:53 p.m.
The four students and bus driver were the only occupants of the bus. All were transported from the scene for medical treatment, and are expected to make full recoveries.
"KCSD would like to thank local and regional law enforcement and emergency services for their quick and comprehensive response to the accident, as well as thank neighboring communities and school districts that have reached out to offer their support during this time," reads a statement from Interim Superintendent Todd Liechty.
The school district will have additional counseling services available in the school buildings for those in need. Members of the school district administration are joining the bus route to provide mental support to students as well.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
