Western Illinois University is once again leasing out space on one of its campuses.
The Board of Trustees agreed to lease the space in Horrabin Hall in Macomb to Regional Office of Education 26, which serves Fulton, Hancock, McDonough, and Schuyler counties.
“This is not our mission to be a landlord, if you will, but if there are opportunities that it enhances our communities, our academic programs, the state, and meets the mission of what we have to offer, then we are certainly open to those conversations,” Ketra Roselieb, WIU’s Vice President for Finance and Administration, told the board.
The lease will run from June 1, 2027 through June 30, 2032. The first-year payments will be $9,637 per month. The university will be responsible for all maintenance and repairs.
ROE 26 will use the space for its ROYALS program, the Early Beginnings Program, and other grant programs.
“The university is excited about expanding partnerships, expanding income-producing opportunities for the institution that we think will have multiple positive impacts on our campus, on our facilities, on our student experiences, and on our communities,” Roselieb said.
One year ago, the board agreed to rent out the former credit union building, 322 W. University Drive in Macomb, to the Illinois Department of Human Services for office space.
Also at that time, the board agreed to rent our two of the buildings on the WIU Quad Cities campus to the Moline-Coal Valley School District, which is using the space for classes while it completes an expansion project at one of its schools.
