The public will have to wait a little while longer to find out who will be the next superintendent of Galesburg District 205.
While the school board aimed to present a candidate in October, board president Courtney Rodriguez now says they have not yet made a decision.
“While we had hoped to have a recommendation for the October board meeting, we do not want to rush this process, and make sure we are taking the time necessary to make an informed and thoughtful decision,” Rodriguez told TSPR.
Superintendent John Asplund is retiring next year after leading the district since 2017.
The school board chose to lead the search rather than hire a firm. The board received 15 applications.
Board members conducted initial interviews on Sept. 4, and then narrowed the search to three finalists. Interviews with the finalists were conducted last week.
Rodriguez said the board could make a decision between now and the Oct. 5 meeting, but no recommendation will be brought forward at that meeting.
Recommending a candidate the following month still aligns with Rodriguez's goal to do so no later than November.
