Business professionals from around the tri states gathered in Macomb to share ideas about economic and community development.
“The purpose is to get everybody together,” said Sean Freeman, Director for Tri-State Development at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
Around 100 people signed up for the 30th Tri-State Development Summit.
Freeman said the region has a stronger voice when it speaks collectively. He said the organization is open to government employees, economic development professionals, business owners, and more.
“Anybody should be able to join in on this discussion because the things we’re talking about impact everyone in our region,” he said.
Freeman said those issues include housing, childcare, workforce, and community engagement.
The two-day summit included tours of Pella Windows and Macomb’s downtown on Wednesday.
The following day featured seminars on topics such as “Birth to Five Illinois: A Regional Approach to Early Childhood,” “Creating Communities Where People Want to Be,” and “Practical Tools for Expanding Housing Options.” Thursday’s presentations were held at Western Illinois University.
“We can do a lot of good work when we come together. We can do a lot to expand each other’s network and opportunities,” Freeman said.
“The folks in our region are really generous. That has been my experience. When somebody has worked really hard to accomplish something, I find they’re quick to want to share that with another community.”
Freeman said they alternate summit locations around the tri states. Hannibal hosted the summit in 2025. He said they will be in Burlington in 2027.
