For the first time since 1984, a Democrat has been elected to the Warren County board.

Jeff Rankin, a local historian and retired communications professional, won 57% of the vote in a race to serve an unexpired two-year term in District 2.

"I am humbled by the confidence of District 2 voters and eager to get to work. Court was a strong and cordial opponent. While I don't consider County Board to be a partisan organization, it's gratifying to realize I am the first Democrat elected to the board in 42 years," Rankin told TSPR.

Rankin faced Republican Court Hopkins, a teacher, who had previously been appointed to the seat.

Rankin got 693 votes to Hopkins’ 528, according to unofficial election results.

The last time a Democrat was elected to any seat on the board was in 1984, when Raymond Elliott of Roseville won another term in District 3 after first being elected in 1972.
