Macomb School District 185 sold its former high school building on South Johnson Street to Spoon River College in 1983.

On Tuesday, it bought the building back.

The school district submitted the high bid of $60,000 during an online auction conducted by Sullivan Auctioneers.

SRC sold the building because it moved into a new facility on East Jackson Street in the fall of 2025.

“We are pleased to move forward with the sale of our former Macomb campus and especially pleased that the property may continue to serve an educational purpose,” said SRC President Shelley Barkley in a news release.

“We look forward to seeing how this property will benefit students and the community in the future.”
