Macomb police say they arrested a man for shooting a person who was damaging his vehicle.

Justin Butler, 29, of Macomb is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery.

Police say they were called to the 300 block of West Adams Street around 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, on a report of someone suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

They found Quinvontaz Jackson, 31, of Macomb and began administering life-saving measures.

Jackson was taken to McDonough District Hospital and later transferred to a regional trauma center.

Police say their investigation found that Jackson came to Butler’s home and started damaging Butler’s vehicle. Police believe Butler saw this happening from inside his apartment and discharged a firearm, striking Jackson.

The Macomb Police Department said the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department, the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation personnel assisted with the investigation.
