Burlington Has “Vision” For Future

Community leaders in Burlington are looking for volunteers to help improve the city.

The Imagine Our Future campaign started out with about 1,800 ideas for making the Burlington area a better place to live, work and play.

A committee reduced that number to 100 before the public had the chance to cut the list to 30.

Campaign Co-Chair Matt Shinn says that is when the process became very difficult.

But he says about 28 of the 30 entries could be lumped into one of five areas.

Shinn says the five “Visions” are more general in nature to allow a wide variety of projects.

“We didn’t want to just limit it to creating bike trails, for example,” says Shinn, “because that is not as visionary as we had hoped.  Becoming Iowa’s healthiest community, (though) could include the creation of bike trails.”

The vision statements also include creating programs for young people, developing an indoor recreation facility, improving the city’s appearance, and enhancing the riverfront.

Shinn says task forces are being formed to get started on each vision for Burlington.

He says more information is available on the website, www.imagineourfuture.net.
