Burlington residents still have plenty of opportunities to weigh in on a new “blue-print” for the city.
Development and Parks Director Eric Tysland says it has been at least 15 years since Burlington updated its comprehensive plan. He says this type of document is crucial to future planning and development.
“It looks at all aspects of the city,” says Tysland, “from land-use to streets to infrastructure and public services (police & fire). Basically every aspect of the city is addressed in the plan in one way or another.”
Burlington hired a consulting firm to lead the process. Residents have also been involved along the way through public meetings or smaller focus groups.
Tysland says the city is taking a chapter by chapter approach to the revision.
The document will have six chapters. Introduction; Planning Process and Public Participation; Issues & Opportunities; Vision, Goals, Objectives and Policies; Land Use; & Implementation and Action Plan.
Tysland says public input is still welcome. He says it can be provided during monthly planning meetings or online at www.burlingtoncompplan.com.
Another community meeting is scheduled for the end of May.
Tysland says the goal is for the updated comprehensive plan to be adopted by the city council in November. He hopes the document will be reviewed at least once a year in the future to keep it fresh and up to date to avoid such an overhaul in the future.
