It took some sorting out, but Macomb aldermen eventually agreed to have more lights installed at Chandler Park before next month's Heritage Days celebration.
Eleven electrical bollards will be added to the north side of the park. Bollards were installed in the southern portion of the park last year.
In addition, floodlights will be installed at the Chandler monument and the Civil War monument.
The bid specifications for the project called for the work to be done before Heritage Days, but City Administrator Dean Torreson suggested during the May 7 City Council meeting that it could wait until July.
Alderman At Large Dennis Moon did not appear pleased with that idea and questioned Torreson about it.
Moon: “Since it was in the bid specs that this was to be done by Heritage Days, did this effect the price?”
Torreson: “You mean could it have had an impact on the bid prices that were submitted?”
Moon: “Yes.”
Torreson: “It probably did. We don't know that but I would guess it probably did.”
Moon: “I guess that's why I would encourage us to go by what we put out in our specs.”
Aldermen started to vote on the issue, but there was confusion over whether the motion called for the work to be done before or after Heritage Days. After a bit of discussion, it was decided that the motion by Fifth Ward Alderman Dave Dorsett called for the project to be done as outlined in the specs -- in other words, to be completed before Heritage Days.
The motion was approved 7-to-2, with Dorsett and Seventh Ward Alderman Clay Hinderliter opposed.
The winning bid of $28,667 was submitted by Macomb Electrical.
