U.S. 67 bridge slated for replacement
U.S. 67 bridge slated for replacement

The first of two bridges north of Macomb on U.S. 67 will be replaced this construction season. They're located one mile south of the intersection with Highway 9.

Crews will begin the $4 million project May 14th.

Bill Lewis is the construction field engineer for the project. County Contractors, Inc. of Quincy will do the work.

He says, “The schedule's pretty tight for them to get that first structure done this year. So they'll jump into that right away.”

Lewis expects the initial work of building medians and the crossover to take about two weeks. Traffic will be routed over the other bridge  Removal of the southbound bridge should begin after Memorial Day. The new bridge will be completed in the fall.

Lewis says drivers will notice quite a difference once the first bridge is done.

He says, “The bridges will be quite a bit higher than what they currently sit right not. I think we're raising those structures about 6' in there so it will have a little bit different look to it as we get completed with it.”

The northbound bridge will be replaced next year.

The two bridges have received temporary repairs the last couple of years but both are near the end of their service lives.
