Macomb School Superintendent to Retire

Dr. Alene Reuschel

The Macomb School District will soon begin the search for a new superintendent. Dr. Alene Reuschel will retire next year.

She seriously considered retirement this year after the governor proposed cutting pension benefits for educators.  However,  she decided she had too much work left to do.

She said, “We're right at the brink of doing some really fantastic things here, not only in Macomb, but just in education we're just at the very cusp of what we're going to see.”

One of those changes is the implementation of “one-on-one” technology next year at the high school. The change will require teachers to use new approaches in the classroom. It  is also requiring computer and network updates.  The district will provide students wireless devices to use in the classroom.

Reuschel says the change is exciting.  She wants to make sure implementation  goes smoothly.

She said, “I also wanted to make sure that our board has ample time to do an adequate search and I think this is just appropriate.”

She feels the board will have plenty of time to hire a search firm and have her successor in place by August of 2013.

Reuschel has been the superintendent for five years.  She began her career as an educator student-teaching in Macomb.
