Cameron Resigns as Ambulance Coordinator

Perry Cameron has tendered his resignation with the Hancock County Board. The board had given him a week to resign from his position as ambulance coordinator or be fired.

The board was unhappy with progress the district has made in solving a number of problems. These range from sloppy paperwork to crew members who are not keeping up with their required continuing education.

Hancock County's ambulance service has been operating under a “Plan of Corrections” since January to address the problems.

Board Chairman David Walker says the board's action was necessary since there hasn't  been any real progress.

He says, “It tells people that we're serious about making changes, trying to make our ambulance service better. I mean, that's what we're here for-to provide services to the residents of our county.”

Camerson says the district is better-equipped than when he took over The district has three relatively new ambulances, two heart monitors, three power-lift stretchers and a building in Carthage to house ambulances.

He says, “I feel I have done a good job for EMS in Hancock County. And I have left it better than before I started.”

Cameron also says the district is financially sound with about $750,000 in the bank.

The county has begun a search for a new coordinator. Walker hopes to fill the position in 60-90 days. In the interim, Memorial Hospital's Florine Dixon and Warsaw EMT Donald Haage will share those duties.
