SCC Narrowing Presidential Candidates

Southeastern Community College has narrowed the field in its search for a new president.

Board of Trustees Chairman Brian Roth says the college received 30 applications from individuals interested in replacing current President Beverly Simone.

Simone is retiring after 6 ½ years with SCC.

Roth says a search committee, consisting of college and community leaders, has identified three finalists.

He says they were selected based on a review of the candidates and a series of SKYPE interviews conducted Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Roth says the names of the finalists will be made public once they have been notified and have committed to moving forward in the process.

He says each will be asked to come to campus in a couple of weeks to meet with the Board of Trustees and to participate in public forums in both Keokuk and West Burlington.

The campus visits are expected to take place between July 27th and August 4th.

President Simone is scheduled to step down in mid-August.

Roth says SCC’s Board of Trustees is willing to talk to her about pushing her timeline back to help with the transition.

His goal is to find a president who is a good communicator who is active in the community and willing to lead.
