Residents Want Fertilizer Plant Meeting

Some Lee County residents want answers about the $1.4-billion fertilizer plant scheduled to be built near Wever by 2015.

Lori Beckert of rural Lee County went to Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting at the request of several residents who could not attend.

She says they and many others have plenty of questions about Iowa Fertilizer Company’s proposed plant.

Those questions prompted her to request a community meeting with the supervisors.

Beckert would like the meeting to be held on a weeknight within the next two weeks at the fire station in Wever.

The supervisors said that is possible if they get a copy of the questions ahead of time so they can determine who needs to be in attendance.

Beckert says the questions will be provided to them by early next week at the latest.

She did not want to get into her own questions, citing the need to provide them to the supervisors first.
