Price for Donnellson Plant Growing

It is costing one Lee County community much more money to upgrade a key facility.

Donnellson Mayor Bill Young says crews have started moving dirt for the expansion and renovation of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

He says the improvements are needed to keep up with changing federal standards.

Young says the project has been in the works for about five years, so the $3.4-million price tag has jumped dramatically from the original estimate of $1.9-million.

He says Donnellson will use a $300,000 state grant to pay for some of the project with the city borrowing the rest.

In anticipating, the city council has started the process of increasing sewer rates for residential and commercial customers by $5/month starting early next year.

Young says the plant improvements should be completed by September of next year.
